I am Fred Owusu O. Asante and I am glad for the opportunity like this to testify to the gross impact this Honorable philanthropic NGO has had on me. It all started when it was announced that a free extra classes is being organized in Donkorkrom and that all should endeavor to attended which would cover English Language, Mathematics and General Science. This classes were scheduled to take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at exactly 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
When the programme started the number of pupils swelled up in such a way that there were two streams of classes from Form One to Form Three. Those who can without learning materials because they could not afford we taken care of free of charge since everything about the programme was for free. At the end of the term examinations were conducted and the overall best three pupils are rewarded.
During the programme we were not only trained in terms of academics but also on adolescent reproduction health. We were also mentored and taught his to choose positive role model, how to excel in all aspects of life and above all how to be religious and remain chaste in life.
Through this intervention we recorded the highest pass and excellent performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) by even recording single digit aggregate for the first time.
After I completed Junior Secondary School (now Junior High School), the unexpected happened when the organizer and sponsor Dr. Steve Ogbordzor was transferred from the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital to a place initially unknown to us bringing the programme to unexpected end. Records have it that it was during the year of the intervention that the District started recording the highest number of pupils entering into Senior High School and after this too there has not been any tremendous performance in the BECE.
After Dr. Steve Ogbordzor left some of us managed to linked up with him and he continued supporting us financially. Due to the good foundation that we had, the result reflected at the end of our three years in the Senior High School and I personal had an admission to pursue Chemical Engineering in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Others too went to various Training Colleges and Polytechnics and other tertiary institutions.
After national service I applied for recruitment into the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority of which I am of the rank of Junior Revenue Assistant (Grade I) now.
So in summary I can say that since every strong building is always dependent on the foundation, without the intervention that we had from the efforts of Mrs. and Dr. Steve Ogbordzor I haven’t have made it so far and through the nurturing, I have also been able to impact some people and help others too climb up the academic ladder. I want to say that all was God’s working and we thank them for allowing themselves to be used by God to reach us even in their difficult times. I also thank them for their act of philanthropy and the spirit of giving imbued in some of us.
Thank you
